Guillotine Glass Enclosures for Vertical Openings

Control light, airflow, and views with a guillotine glass enclosure system that rises and lowers smoothly, functioning as a glass ralining when open and creating a secure, weather-protective glass wall when closed.

What Is a Guillotine Glass Enclosure System?

Guillotine glass systems are vertically sliding glass windows where one or more sashes move up and down within slim aluminium frames. Instead of opening sideways like doors, the glass panels glide along side channels, allowing you to stop them at any height you want for controlled ventilation and protection.

When fully raised or lowered, the panels stack to create a transparent guardrail, keeping views open while providing safety. When fully closed, the system becomes a sealed glass wall with excellent sound, heat, and water insulation.

It’s especially useful where space is limited, wind comfort is important, and safety as a glass railing is required.

Why Choose Guillotine Glass Systems?

Guillotine glass systems give both homeowners and commercial spaces a cleaner way to control comfort without blocking the view. You can open the glass from the top, bottom, or anywhere in between to manage airflow while reducing direct wind on people inside. When partially open, the stacked panels still function like a transparent glass railing, keeping the edge safe and visually open.

For year-round use, insulated glass and tight sealing details help improve sound, heat, and water protection, while the drive system is engineered for quiet, smooth movement. Motorized control makes operation easy in restaurants and hospitality settings (including controlling multiple openings with a single remote), and the aluminum construction with high-quality bearings and powder-coated finishes supports durability with minimal maintenance in real weather.

Vertical Comfort Control

Open from the top, bottom, or partially—ventilate the space while keeping guests protected from direct wind.

Glass Railing Function

When open, stacked sashes act as a transparent balustrade, combining safety with uninterrupted views.

4-Season Use & Insulation

Insulated glass, bristle wicks, and well-designed aluminium cases support sound, heat, and water insulation for all-season use.

Silent & Smooth Operation

Durable belts or chains with integrated steel rope and multiple bearings provide quiet, balanced motion.

Motorized Convenience

Operate up to 20 systems with a single remote; stop each window exactly where you want it with one touch.

Durability & Low Maintenance

Aluminium profiles, steel and stainless bearings, and electrostatic powder coating ensure long-lasting performance under real weather conditions.

Material Quality & Design Options

Guillotine systems are designed as long-term architectural elements, not temporary add-ons.

These elements make guillotine glass systems not only functional, but also a refined design statement in modern architecture.

Three Guillotine Solutions for Different Needs

Standard Guillotine Glass Systems
Assisted Guillotine Glass Systems
Cleanable Guillotine Glass Systems

The standard guillotine system opens and closes by moving the glass panels up and down in vertical motion.

  • Typically designed as a 3-wing system with insulated or single-glass options

  • Can also be produced as 2-, 3-, or 4-panel configurations depending on project needs

  • One sash is fixed, while the other two are movable

  • Movable sashes can be stopped at any level—half-open, fully open, or anywhere in between

  • The system can be configured to collect the glass above or below, according to preference

When fully closed, the system provides excellent water and air tightness. With insulated glass, it delivers near-perfect results in sound and thermal performance. Modern, elegant profiles allow it to adapt easily to any architectural style.

The Cotill Series guillotine system is engineered to be exceptionally quiet, thanks to a specially designed belt and gear system and a motor compartment housed in a dedicated aluminium box at the top of the system.

02

Assisted Guillotine Glass Systems

Assisted guillotine glass systems are designed as an alternative solution for high-rise buildings, restaurants, cafés, hotels, and patisseries where comfort, automation, and safety are critical.

  • Glass panels move horizontally up and down using a motorized mechanism

  • Operation via button or remote control (both options possible)

  • Uses 4+16+4 mm tempered insulating glass as standard (other combinations optional)

  • Side-mounted 67 × 1200 bristle wicks in the aluminium case provide insulation

  • A durable belt with a 20 × 25 mm inner steel rope, or optional chain, lifts the windows quietly

  • Each moving sash uses 8 ball bearings inside the side channels for smooth, balanced movement

Up to 20 systems can be controlled with a single remote control, and you can stop the glass at any level. When open, the 3 sashes stack in front of each other and act as a glass balustrade. When closed, they provide sound, heat, and water insulation and lock automatically—no extra lock is needed.

You can open from the top as much as you like, ventilating the area while minimizing wind discomfort for people seated or standing nearby

03

Cleanable Guillotine Glass Systems

Cleanable guillotine glass systems are developed for projects where easy maintenance and cleaning are as important as comfort and safety—again ideal for high-rise applications, restaurants, cafés, hotels, and patisseries.

Key features:

  • All glass surfaces can be cleaned, because the bottom sash can be opened in the system

  • Windows move vertically up and down using a motorized system, started by button or remote

  • Uses 4+16+4 mm tempered insulating glass as standard (other combinations optional)

  • Side-mounted 67 × 1200 bristle wicks provide insulation and controlled movement

  • Durable belt with 20 × 25 mm inner rope, or optional chain, ensures quiet and easy operation

  • 8 ball bearings per sash allow smooth, balanced movement in the side channels

As with the assisted system, up to 20 systems can be controlled from a single remote, and you can stop at any level. When open, three sashes act as a glass guardrail; when closed, the system delivers sound, heat, and water insulation and stays securely shut without an additional lock.

The cleanable version adds one key advantage: the design of the lower panel and side rails allows easy access to the outer surfaces of the glass, making routine cleaning much simpler and safer.

Choose Between Thermopane vs Double-Glazed Glass Options

Thermopane and double-glazed sliding systems both use two panes, but performance depends on how they’re built. Thermopane uses a sealed IGU for stronger insulation and noise control, while double-pane systems can still insulate well when glass thickness, spacer depth, sealing, and track installation are done with tight tolerances.

01

Thermopane Glass (Insulated

Thermopane sliding systems use an insulated glass unit (IGU) to deliver stronger comfort and noise control, making them ideal for exterior openings, pergola enclosures, and four-season spaces. With a double-glazed IGU and tempered glass on both sides, you get more effective insulation to help retain warmth in winter and limit heat gain in summer, added security from reinforced glazing, and better energy efficiency by reducing heat transfer through the opening.
02

Double-Glazed Glass (Two-Pane)

Double-pane sliding systems use two layers of glass to deliver solid insulation and a more protected feel compared to single glazing. Overall performance depends on the exact build - glass thickness, spacer depth, sealing quality, and the precision of frame and track installation - because tighter tolerances and better sealing translate directly into better comfort and long-term reliability.

Guillotine Glass Systems FAQ

They are ideal for high-rise buildings, balconies, terraces, restaurants, cafés, patisseries, hotels, pergolas, winter gardens, and any semi-outdoor space that needs safe edges, clear views, and adjustable ventilation.

Sliding and folding systems open sideways; guillotine systems move vertically. Guillotine glass is especially useful where space is limited, wind is strong, or a glass railing function is required.

Yes. Assisted and cleanable systems lock themselves in the closed position and cannot be opened from inside or outside, eliminating the need for separate locks.

Yes. With insulated glass, bristle seals, and proper installation, guillotine systems offer sound, heat, and water insulation—suitable for 4-season use in many climates.

They are motorized and can be controlled via wall button or remote. Up to 20 systems can be operated with a single remote controller.

Cleanable guillotine systems are specifically designed to allow the bottom sash to open, so all glass surfaces can be safely accessed and wiped.
